How to handle Huge Digital Files When Marketing With New Media
Marketing with New Media tools like business blogs, podcasts, and social networks often means using multimedia files that can get quite large. Sure you could store them all on your own local hard drive. But that would also mean uploading them to a hosting server to use in your online marketing. Well, there are some very reasonable alternatives that can make your life easier.
Here are a couple services that make sharing large files used in your New Media Marketing simple:
MediaMax.com
This company is my favorite as they really kick it up a notch with 25GB free storage and a multitude of files sharing and privacy options. My favorite benefit from MediaMax is their free backup service. With all the New Media Marketing files we have for our business blogs along with audio and video podcasts, this is a HUGE money saver. (We knocked our off-site backup service bill down almost $300/month using MediaMax.)
At $30/month for 1000GB, if all you ever use MediaMax for is off-site backup and storage, it’s well worth the money.
MyFabrik.com
Although it’s focused more on personal users, this service makes file sharing drop dead easy. It will automatically generate links for you to put into your business blog, social networking sites, or even send via email. it’s .49 cents per GB after the first GB free.
Cachefly.com
Hitting it big with a podcast based on your BLOG 360 or other business blog is awesome. But that popularity comes with a price — big bandwidth usage. As your bandwidth usage and download speeds under heavy load become more of a concern (not a bad place to be in at all,) then Cachefly is where you want your audio and video podcast files.
Storage is more costly here, but download speeds even under massive load are blazing fast. This is the choice for hosting your active podcasts when your deliverabilty begins to suffer with more storage focused alternatives.

You can also manage your huge media files with IBackup for Windows. IBackup is like an extra hard drive right on your computer and it allows you to store your important documents and files securely online.
You can play your favorite audio or video files stored in your IBackup account using the Media Gallery feature. Media Gallery displays all the video and audio files you have in your IBackup account. If you have video/audio files in a folder, Web-Manager automatically senses the presence of them and displays the ‘Media Gallery’ option under File/Folder when you login to your IBackup account. Clicking on the video/audio thumbnails will start playing the file using the media player.
IBackup also has IDrive Multimedia, an Internet Hard drive designed for multimedia use. Simply move your music and video files into your IBackup account and double-click on your multi-media files, it will open up your Media Player and play the multi-media file. You can even create ‘Playlists’ or do ‘Shuffle’ using your favorite Media Player pointing to IDrive’s media files. You will notice that music or video starts streaming instantaneously.
Share important business documents or share your files, photos, music and videos with friends or family. Share the data without leaving yourself open to hackers. IBackup lets you have direct control over access to the space, folders and the files. You have control over who can view, edit, save and upload folders and files stored in your IBackup account.

If we use youTube for video hosting are we locked into that standard size?

If you know basic code you can change the frame size in the code for embedding video on your site. There are two sets of numbers for the sizing and their pretty easy to see in the embed code.
Have fun Howard!
