Are you into Smooth Jazz like me? My buddy Mike Stewart is doing a New Media Marketing case study using his new album to show the music industry just how powerful marketing with blogs, podcasts, social networks and all Web 2.0.

The case study?

To get as much radio play and chart in Billboard Magazine. Mike and his partner are giving away $150 of professional royalty free music to use in your podcasts or Google audio ads when you purchase their CD or the album on MP3.

The music is cool (and top quality,) and the results of the New Media Marketing case study is going to be interesting. I’ll be sure to get the results from Mike and share them with you!

Go grab the album and your $150 in royalty free music over at http://www.michaelandmike.com/special/.

You can listen to all the tracks before buying. :)

First off… Happy New Years to you and yours! Deb and I wish you a healthy, wealthy and life-changing 2007!

Marketing online with New Media tools like blogs, podcasts, and social networks is really powerful for conversion and list-building. But “old media” is still effective for attracting surging streams of quality leads and qualified traffic to your site.

Radio is one of those “old media” tools that really does the trick. And we’ve got a New Year’s gift to help you harness the power of radio to boost your New Media Marketing results.

new media marketing meets old media for more power

Start to combine the list-building and conversion power of New Media Marketing with the mass attraction power of "old media" — for FREE!

Here’s how…

Our good friend and media coach Wayne Kelly wants to give you his $24 eBook “Insider Secrets to Radio Interviews” for FREE! Wayne is a Top 40 Radio DJ. He and his partner in crime (Jane) host Canada’s leading morning drive time show.

Wayne’s got a lifetime of experience and connections all across North America. He’s interviewed celebrities from Dr. Phil McGraw, Robert Allen, Mark Victor Hansen, Lionel Richie, Richard Simmons, Survivor & American Idol contestants and the list goes on.

He has a HUGE heart, and is passionate about helping Business Owners, authors, professionals, and niche specialists get free radio or print publicity. And he is practical in helping you boost your credibility, expert-status, and profits.

The reason Wayne is offering this eBook for free is because he gets pitched all day long by people who have no idea how badly they’re blowing it for themselves when trying to get media and publicity. And because of that these business owners, authors, and specialists are losing out on the magnetic power of radio.

“Insider Secrets to Radio Interviews” is your first step in becoming (more…)

Is your business blogging and New Media Marketing ready for the next big move of the New Media Marketplace? After checking some of our standard sites against the new .MOBI mobile compatibility, I know we’re not. But we’ve taken the first steps to be road ready with our key marketing and membership sites, and I’ll share the first simple steps you can take too.

With 4x as many mobile phones on the planet than computers, it’s clear that the mobile device is the next frontier of practical connection and marketing
The third screen (cell phones and other mobile devices) is the next door of opportunity swinging open for business owners and marketers looking to market with business blogs and other New Media. A weekend with my nephews, a couple of new college graduates, and my wife’s new Blackberry Pearl convinced me that the bleeding edge New Media marketers and developers have got it right. The mobile device is the next frontier of practical connection and marketing. I’ve never felt as free, mobile, and connected as that weekend made me feel.

The fact is that there are four times as many mobile phones on the planet as there are computers. And the new generation of mobile devices are making mobile Web access simple and painless. Any savvy business owner or marketer will quickly see the huge opportunity looming on the horizon.

Breaking free from the PC

People want to escape being chained to their desktop or laptops. And they want their content to be accessible at the same time. Yes — we all want our cake and be able to eat it too! And with today’s new mobile devices there’s no reason why people shouldn’t get what they want.

The only challenge with accessing business blogs, New Media, or any other type of web content is the way it appears on mobile devices. Cumbersome at best. Illegible, unusable, and utterly frustrating at it’s worst.

Enter the .MOBI top level domain and new mobile standards

The new suffix was approved by ICANN in July 06′, and open registration started on September 26th. The idea behind the new suffix is that consumers will be able to recognize Web sites and business blogs that are specially designed for use by mobile phones by the new “.MOBI” suffix.

Why a new top level domain suffix?

Where other suffixes (.tv, .biz, .us, and others) where nothing more than marketing ploys to get new registrants, this suffix is a practical one.

It’s about simplicity, discover ability, and predictability. When you see the .MOBI extension you know the content is meant for mobile devices. It just makes sense.

The good news…

Unless you have (more…)

Picture this …

A delivery truck pulls up to your doorstep, a man gets out of the truck and hands you your first box of books, then within 60 days of that delivery - that book becomes an international best-seller and sells over 60,000 copies.

I’m about to tell you how you can make that happen for yourself, but first I want you to ask yourself this question…

What would be different in your life if you were a bestselling author?

Think about that for a moment because I’m about to give you private access to a Bestseller Starter Kit – normally $197 – absolutely free to the first 1000 people who grab it this week at:

www.Automatic-Bestseller.com

It explains the same system my friend used to turn his book idea into a bestseller within 60 days… without a list, without any experience, and without any clue where to begin…

His name is Christopher Guerriero, and he’s now an international best selling author, who’s about to spill the beans and let you in on all the insider secrets that helped him sell more than 319,000 copies of his first book in less than a year.

Christopher Guerriero

Chris started with no book writing or marketing experience, yet built a system that helped him sell more books in 60 days than most authors sell in a lifetime – and since then he and his clients have used that exact system to build an army of book empires.

Since you know our new book, “Secrets of Online Persuasion,”
will be released by Ingram next month, we thought we’d share the
system that we’re using to complement our book authoring with blogs to generate buzz that our friend Chris gave us access to in order to help us reach Best Seller Status over the next few months.

And now you can do the same!

I watched his video several times, and listened to the audios during our recent plane ride to Baltimore for The Internet Marketing Main Event - taking such voracious notes, I almost missed the meal that came around!

This kit details a system that will boost your credibility, your income, and make you a bestselling author in the process.

I’m not going to waste your time building this man up in your eyes because I’m not the only one who Christopher is allowing to give his Starter Kit away for free, and it’s only available to the first 1000 people who grab a copy.

I can’t believe he is giving this kit away… so we wanted to make sure we shared this link with our friends on our list right away so they could get it free this week.

But you have to get a copy of the ‘Automatic Bestseller Starter Kit’ today – before he closes up this link – which I’m told will be any day now.

Go on over to: www.Automatic-Bestseller.com

God-speed to your book authoring success!

NOTE: Be sure to let us know when you take advantage of his offer by posting a comment below, because we have a few surprise GIFTS for our clients and blog readers who seize the day and grab this private access video for free.

Deborah and John-Paul Micek

P.S. If you have any friends who might be interested in
becoming an author – please do them a favor and send
them this link to this blog post so they can get a copy of the starter kit
before it’s too late. I’ve been given permission to share this link
to all my friends, family and clients. So feel free to link to this post and forward to yours.

In part three of this New Media Marketing series we looked at three more ‘not quite’ Commandments of marketing with business blogs, podcasts, social networks, and any other type of participatory media.

They were:

#6: Thou shalt participate, comment, and converse in context
#7: Thou shalt only call it content if it’s linkable
#8: Thou shalt assume that readers will enter your site from any and every page

In this article we’ll wrap up the series with the final two guiding principles for successfully marketing with “new media.” Where most of the commandments are focused on people, participation, and persuasion (the Genesis to the Secrets of Online Persuasion,) these final two Commandments are more “practical” in nature similar to Commandment #8.

#9. Thou shalt encourage participation on individual pages
Some of this is already built into blogging software, through commenting and trackbacks that encourage participation. Commenting and trackbacks should be prominent at the bottom of all of your posts or articles.

When our good friend Wayne Kelly (host/producer of the hit Wayne and Jayne Morning Show on KBS Canada) told us about his interview with Kyle MacDonald about his red paper clip nearly a year ago, I was pretty impressed with his trades. At the time using only Craigs List and his blog, Kyle had bartered his way from a single red paper clip to a snowmobile with just six trades. His goal — to barter his way up to a house.

Now, within just 15 trades and a little over a year’s worth of blogging and New Media marketing effort — Kyle MacDonald has turned that one red paper clip into a house!

Solely using the power of the internet and New Media Marketplace, Kyle’s unique marketing and bartering got him online and off-line publicity galore. Eventually that publicity got him noticed by Corbin Bernsen (”L.A. Law” and “Major League”) who offered Kyle a speaking role in a movie he’s producing. But instead of jumping at the opportunity, Kyle stayed true to his belief that all trades needed to be fair and provide something of value to the other person. There would be no perceived charity here.

Since he had nothing of relative value to trade Bernsen for at the time, he put the offer on hold and went to work. With research, and by using some online persuasion techniques Kyle discovered that Bernsen collected snow globes. Kyle (through a trade with Alice Cooper) got a very rare snow globe of the band Kiss so he could trade that with Bernsen. Now thanks to the power of online influence and persuasion he was on his way to some serious online and off-line media attention.

With all the buzz, Kyle’s blogging and the New Media marketing frenzy he was creating attracted the attention of the town of Kipling Canada. The city Council is capitalizing on the press, publicity, and online traffic generated by MacDonald’s story for their benefit as we ll as Kyle’s. In a very smart move the town Council voted to buy him a house in Kipling!

A very smart marketing move!

This one investment of about $45,000 US will easily bring half-a-million or more in free advertising and publicity to help boost Kipling notoriety. And that, the town is already planning to use to boost their marketing to get business owners to come back to Kipling. A ten-plus times return for buzz and traffic generation that was all made possible by New Media and online persuasion!

Pretty cool stuff!

The most interesting thing is that the real marketing and promotion power at work in this story is NOT in the technology of the New Media Marketplace. It’s in the in people, participation, and persuasion! Without the ability to build rapport or influence and persuade online, Kyle MacDonald would have never been able to wield the New Media technology to successfully reach his goal.

Technology is only a tool. The power is in people and persuasion.

What are some ideas you got from this story that you could use in marketing your business with blogs, or leveraging other New Media resources for buzz or branding?

What secrets of online persuasion and influence do you see at work in this success story? (Check out the resource links below to the AP news article “Blogger’s quest ends with keys to house” and to Kyle’s Red Paper Clip blog for more details.)

Maybe you’ve already had some wins with a similar story of your own. What was that win?

Share your thoughts with a quick comment. We’d love to hear how you’re using business blogs and New Media to generate free buzz, branding, and advertising for you and your business.

Are you a busy business owner stretched for time, but yearning to come up with new profit producing innovations? A business blogger dealing with information overload? A sales professional or marketer looking to stay several steps ahead of the competition?

If you fall into any of these categories, you know how important it is to make every minute of your day as productive as possible. Yet at the same time — you also know that one of most important responsibilities you have is staying on top of your niche, industry, and competitors.

So there you are, left in a quandary. Two critical business needs that up till now have been diametrically opposed. But now with the power of RSS, you can quickly and painlessly put an end to that struggle. And that’s critical, because let’s face it … the overwhelm of information usually leads to procrastination or plain old neglect.

With a pair of easy to use tools, you can harness the power of RSS and put it to work for you and your business. You can do your research, create new online and off-line contacts, keep ahead of competitors, and spawn a host of innovative profit producing ideas in a fraction of the time it would have taken you just two years ago.

In fact, you can cover more material and come up with more profit producing ideas in 30-minutes using these two tools than you could with five hours of online and off-line work.

So what are these two tools that harness RSS to save you time and help make you more money?

Well the first is FeedDemon, the most efficient RSS aggregator on the market. The second is ThunderBird.

Rather than blather on in a few posts, we’re going to cover the benefits and applications of these tools in a short video series. So let’s get started today with a brief introduction to FeedDemon and the FeedDemon video specifically for business owners, sales professionals, and marketers.

FeedDemon - the busy business owner’s research and innovation mega-tool

There are plenty of free RSS readers and aggregator out there, but they are big time wasters compared with FeedDemon. Not to mention that (comparatively) they’re ugly as sin too.:)

As you’re about to see, FeedDemon 2.0 has a look and feel similar to Microsoft Outlook 2003. But it has a much prettier management area that’s user-centric and custom tailored to managing RSS feeds. None of the free RSS aggregator alternatives offer the same level of organization, customization, or filtering capabilities as FeedDemon. And that means more time, nore results, and more advantage in your corner.

Click the images below and the video will open in Windows Media Player (WMP)
If you do not have WMP installed, you can download it here for free

If you’ve been wondering about marketing with podcasts and how you can use New Media Marketing with your business blog, I’ve got something special for you. Watch this video, then check out how they’re making money with this and read my bold prediction on their upcoming success!

Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine are two comedians from LA who have put together (among other things) the AskaNinja.com site. It’s a compilation of hilarious, clean but cutting, comedy clips.

When you check out the site you’ll see how funny they are. (This’ll give you some idea of my and Deb’s sense of humor.) Kent and Doug have put together an incredibly professional multimedia blog too. Must be that LA air they breathe. Or maybe a friend who’s an awesome video editor! :)

Anyway — when you go to Ask A Ninja, you’ll probably wonder why they’re putting this much effort into a free multimedia blog.

How are they making money? And what’s this have to do with business or Advanced Business Blogging?

Well, first of all Kent and Doug are promoting their main business Beatbox Giant (BBG.) Secondly they’re currently in production on an animated show called ‘Kinzai Ninjas‘ that will be out later in 2006. Building an audience now, before the release is smart, stealth like marketing. Just like a Ninja. :)

And when it comes to blogging for business, building an audience — that’s priority #1 for business owners. Even though it’s not the same as a “typical” business, Ask A Ninja shows how building a list fast can be done.

Lots of ideas over there. And once again, here’s another business blog that proves that you can get the marketing results you want without posting multiple posts per day like so many blogging evangelists promote.

Building a massive list? Here’s what I mean….

The first post over at Ask A Ninja was 1/9/06, but the real (more…)

I’ve got to tell ya… as a busy business owner, a lot of bloggers have been getting on my nerves lately. Especially those who blog about the business side of blogging.

When it comes to self-importance and mis-information many of these self-appointed ‘experts’ rank right up there with the opines and opinions of the Ancient (mainstream) Media.

Debbie Weil is NOT one of those people. But some of the comments associated with one of her recent posts on the readership of blogs were the final straws that broke the camels back and pushed me off the virtual plantation in defense of my true business owner brethren.

What is a blog to a business owner anyway?

It sure as heck isn’t what full-time “professional” bloggers say it is. That’s a totally different world. A parallel universe of reality that is much more closely tied to journalism (and a job) than to business ownership.

If you’re a busy business owner, then all that a blog is to you — is a tool. A tool to get:

  • Targeted traffic
  • To build a qualified prospect list
  • And to make more sales!

As a busy business owner running one off-line business and one click-and-mortar business, and after starting and selling three other businesses — I take offense at what many of these experts espouse as “rules” for successfully using blogs in business. Not so much for me, but how misleading that advice is for other business owners new to blogging.

I frankly don’t care how many people are subscribed to the RSS feeds on our business blogs. And I’m not all that concerned with how many people are commenting on our business blogs either. (The vast majority of people who comment are other bloggers, a limited audience.)

What I am concerned with is the positioning of our business blogs in search engines for our top keywords.

I’m concerned with prospects finding one of our products or services when they go to a search engine (any search engine) and try to find solutions to their problems.

Providing solutions to people who are looking for answers, when they are looking for those answers is what business owners are (or should be) concerned with. NOT posting on some schedule annointed with holy oil by ‘they-that-are-the-blogosphere.’

Business owners are busy, so what matters most to us is the bottom line!

Here’s what I mean… (more…)

Blogging goes bigtime at Sundance - and gains the attention of Yahoo and AOL while taking on the big boys: Los Angeles Times and the New York Times.

Blogging has now permeated every part of American culture. From the news (political bloggers) to the arts (movie goers) it’s undeniable that blogging is serious business.

“As blogs become more successful, they are challenging traditional media, and this year’s Sundance marks a fascinating juncture as newly powerful blogs like Cinematical.com take on the likes of the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times.”

Reuters/Hollywood Reporter

Hollywood has just discovered how to put word-of-mouth marketing for movies - on steroids - with blogging! They know their buzz will be louder than ever as they have top bloggers in their industry giving movie goers all over the world the scoop - real time - and faster than traditional main stream media can even try and compete with.

The originial genius behind the idea of bringing blogs into the cinematic world was Jason Calacanis, founder of Weblogs Inc. who persuaded the festival to let him blog about the festival, and the movies he viewed, giving his readers LIVE coverage - from inside the movie theatre.

Now THAT’S instant buzz!
