Optimize Your Business Blog and New Media Marketing With Three Free Keyword Selection Tools
Want your business blog and New Media Marketing to work hard for you?
Well, one of the most important things you can do to get the customers and cash you want using any type of online marketing is to use the right keywords. Keywords that people are already using to find the solutions and services you have to offer.
Yes! Marketing with New Media tools like business blogs, podcasts, tagging, and social networking sites like MySpace allows you to build rapport, branding, and trust like no other online marketing method.
But, let’s face it. If you’re a small business owner, network marketer, or sales professional and you want to attract the most new prospects possible, the easiest way possible — that starts with top search rankings. New Media and blog optimization hinge on keywords just like any other type of online marketing.
Free tools to help select killer keywords for your business blog and New Media Marketing
Three tools for a three-dimensional approach…
1. Overture’s free keyword research tool
Now a Yahoo! company, Overture is a search marketing service (similar to Google’s AdWords). This free tool is designed to help advertisers select keywords for their Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns. But it’s a good tool to help optimize your New Media Marketing too by seeing what keywords are popular in paid listings.
Go to keyword selection tool #1
2. WordTracker’s new keyword selection tool
If you’re a coaching client or in the live BLOG 360 coaching program, you know WordTracker is our favorite tool for doing in-depth keyword research. Only hitch is, it’s not a free service.
Well now WordTracker has released a free keyword selection tool. The results in the tests we ran are quite different than what you’ll get in Overture, which means you’ll get a wider spectrum of top keywords to use in your business blogging and New Media Marketing.
Try out keyword selection tool #2
3. Keyword Fisher
A totally different twist here with this tool. Where Overture and WordTracker’s free keyword selection tools focus on terms people are searching for, Keyword Fisher collects the keywords your competition is focusing on and tallies them up for you in a report.
Once data collection is complete you’ll have a comprehensive list of keywords and phrases that your competitors have spent their time and money to research!
Now this is not always the most accurate way to select killer keywords for yourself. But it is valuable because it allows you to look at your keyword list from another angle. At the very least, it opens your eyes to other possibilities to test.
Start fishing free here with keyword selection tool #3
And if you’ve found another free keyword selection tool that helps optimize your business blogging and New Media Marketing — share them in a comment below!
Enjoy!

Blog Optimization: “Pinging Your Business Blog” and Ping Update List
There are many ways business blogs put your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) on autopilot, and the ability to ping search engine servers every time you post new content is one of them. Quite a few people just starting out blogging for their business miss out on this painless optimization technique because they don’t know what it means to “ping their new blog content.” So here’s a quick, simple explanation…
“Pinging” your blog is simply letting the RSS and blog-specific search engines know that you have new content on your blog. Pinging your new blog content allows instant indexing of your new content by these directories. With a normal website, you post new content and you wait for the search engine spiders to come in to crawl your site to index new content (which can take from 48-hours to a week or more to happen.)
Best thing about pinging is that WordPress can take care of this automatically for you every time you publish new content live to the web. Although you can access the update list at WordPress.org, here it is for your convenience: (more…)

The Basics of Blog Optimization: Understanding Organic Search and Natural Traffic Pull
If you’re a student in the current LIVE Secrets of Marketing with New Media, you know the BLOG 360 system goes wayyyyy beyond the basic business blog. And you know that everything you do with the BLOG 360 system is exponentially multiplied and leveraged with the single click of a button.
But even if you’re starting out marketing with New Media on your own, or if you’re using business blogs to market online there is one blog optimization key you need to remember for both top search engine rankings and high traffic…
Your blog will rank you by the way you write
And that applies whether you’re posting the written word, audio or video podcasts, or even simple images. The search engines will only index what you publish. You must know your niche, know your keywords and publish information that informs your market niche and answers their need.
When your blog comes up in the search results for your keywords, make sure your blog content delivers the solution. When you target your keywords, avoid the fluff and deliver value.
|
There are trafffic-generating keyword opportunities hidden within your own content
|
Your blog will simply and naturally pull in traffic from many places you hadn’t even thought about. Sometimes there will be (keyword) opportunities that were hidden within your own content all the time. You just didn’t see what the search engines saw until people started searching for a natural search phrase that just happened to be in your content.
|
Even without advanced tracking software you can review your server logs and monitor the keyword phrases that are bringing traffic to your business blog. When you see this happening for keyword phrases on a regular basis, it means there is a possible opportunity worth exploring. Blogs have a way of highlighting opportunities for free traffic streams because of how organic indexing works.
You don’t have to work hard at trying to manipulate the process. You simply have to know your target audience, know your keywords, and work at developing great content. As simple as that is, many blogging evangelists and business bloggers forget this fact.
“Content is king” sounds noble, but you’re not playing with New Media and business blogs
You’re marketing with New Media and business blogs!
Leave the esoteric, “free-flowing content crap” to the narrow minded blogging evangelists. And leave the black hat SEO and in-your-face interruption marketing using blogs to the Internet marketing gurus. Your job (if you’re to be successful) in New Media marketing is to find your groove and walk tall in the green area between the two. (Green because of the cash! )

Blog Optimization: Finally Traffic Tracking and Visitor Action Analysis That works!
When you’re blogging for business every single visitor counts. Tracking visitor movement on your site, especially your home page is essential for blog optimization. A lot of the solutions out there have been cumbersome at best, and disappointing at their worst. Now that CrazyEgg is out of beta and is completely stable — there is a simple solution for optimizing your business blog that works!
We’ve been testing CrazyEgg on several of our business blogs over the last two weeks and the results have been very helpful to say the least. I’ll share a more detailed overview after we’ve tracked more results, but we’ve seen the error of our ways in a couple spots already.
For instance, 18.8% of visitors click on the “Resources” tab at the top of Advanced Business Blogging. Sadly, we’ve been so preoccupied with our travel schedule and the three live BLOG 360 courses we’re running that I have not had time to get our programmer to load that page and connect it to our merchant account. (Yeah, I know, I know — suck it up and stop whining! )
Anyway, the results from CrazyEgg have kicked me in the butt and made me realize how many people are disappointed when they go to that page, and how much money we’re leaving on the table.
What are you missing out on with your business blog and a lack of blog optimization? You can find out for free since CrazyEgg will track 5000 visits/month at no cost. More robust plans start at a VERY reasonable $19.99/month.
Never has blog optimization and traffic direction for maximum profits and impact been easier. Get started with CrazyEgg for FREE today!

Blog Optimization: How Your Business Blog Builds Page Rank With Authority Content
Optimizing your business blog to boost your page rank and search engine rankings is much simpler that you think. The foundation is developing legitimate authority content that others find relevant. On the other hand, discovering how Google determines those primary contributors of search ranking are what remain a black box for most business bloggers, owners, and marketers. But here’s something that will help.
Many experts in the search engine optimization and search engine marketing arena believe Google has derived their primary algorithm from a document titled, “Hilltop: A Search Engine based on Expert Documents.”
As someone using business blogs and other New Media to market, this paper will be a great help — both practically and as motivation. You’re on the right track! Here’s just a brief excerpt of why:
“… our technique is a dynamic one and considers connectivity in a graph specifically about the query topic. Hence, it can evaluate relevance of content from the point of view of the community of authors interested in the query topic. Unlike Topic Distillation we enumerate and consider all good experts on the subject and correspondingly all good target pages on the subject. In order to find the most relevant experts we use a custom keyword-based approach, focusing only on the text that best captures the domain of expertise (the document title, section headings and hyperlink anchor-text). Then, in following links, we boost the score of those targets whose qualifying text best matches the query. Thus, by combining content and connectivity analysis, we are both more comprehensive and more precise.”
(Emphasis added.)
The authors Bharat and Mihaila define the roots of optimization for top search engine rankings, and why business blogging, podcasting, and other New Media marketing methods are the key to success. This paper clearly shows why Google has degraded reciprocal links and old school optimization, and embraced New Media and “live” content such as business blogs deliver. It was no mistake.
If you’re serious about optimizing your business blog and getting the most out of your New Media Marketing — read the Hilltop paper. You’ll get a thorough understanding of what Google sees as requirements for top ranking.
Then check out the in-depth review below in the resource section from Atul Gupta at CWD.DK, Implications of Hilltop Algorithm: How will it affect your site ranking? This is a timeless detailed breakdown on the key areas of the Hilltop paper.
The rules of ranking have changed significantly and now favor authority sites. Now’s the time to shift your approach to achieving top search engine rankings and the targeted traffic that brings.
Happy business blog optimization! I’m off to pack for our speaking tour in Australia… (More on that in my next post. If I take any more time tonight I’ll be looking for a new business partner tomorrow AM when I leave for the airport. )
Enjoy!

.MOBI - Business Blogging and New Media Marketing That Reaches The New Mobile Consumer
Is your business blogging and New Media Marketing ready for the next big move of the New Media Marketplace? After checking some of our standard sites against the new .MOBI mobile compatibility, I know we’re not. But we’ve taken the first steps to be road ready with our key marketing and membership sites, and I’ll share the first simple steps you can take too.
|
With 4x as many mobile phones on the planet than computers, it’s clear that the mobile device is the next frontier of practical connection and marketing
|
The third screen (cell phones and other mobile devices) is the next door of opportunity swinging open for business owners and marketers looking to market with business blogs and other New Media. A weekend with my nephews, a couple of new college graduates, and my wife’s new Blackberry Pearl convinced me that the bleeding edge New Media marketers and developers have got it right. The mobile device is the next frontier of practical connection and marketing. I’ve never felt as free, mobile, and connected as that weekend made me feel.
|
The fact is that there are four times as many mobile phones on the planet as there are computers. And the new generation of mobile devices are making mobile Web access simple and painless. Any savvy business owner or marketer will quickly see the huge opportunity looming on the horizon.
Breaking free from the PC
People want to escape being chained to their desktop or laptops. And they want their content to be accessible at the same time. Yes — we all want our cake and be able to eat it too! And with today’s new mobile devices there’s no reason why people shouldn’t get what they want.
The only challenge with accessing business blogs, New Media, or any other type of web content is the way it appears on mobile devices. Cumbersome at best. Illegible, unusable, and utterly frustrating at it’s worst.
Enter the .MOBI top level domain and new mobile standards
The new suffix was approved by ICANN in July 06′, and open registration started on September 26th. The idea behind the new suffix is that consumers will be able to recognize Web sites and business blogs that are specially designed for use by mobile phones by the new “.MOBI” suffix.
Why a new top level domain suffix?
Where other suffixes (.tv, .biz, .us, and others) where nothing more than marketing ploys to get new registrants, this suffix is a practical one.
It’s about simplicity, discover ability, and predictability. When you see the .MOBI extension you know the content is meant for mobile devices. It just makes sense.
The good news…
Unless you have (more…)

Blog Optimization From The Inside Out: Finding Authority-Generating Content With Google
When you’re looking to optimize your business blog for both search engines and humans alike — sharing valuable content that adds value to your target audience is what matters most. And that makes becoming a power searcher (high performance user of search engines) a top back-end priority for blog optimization.
Now while we don’t advocate the parroting of news, tips, or other goings-on across the web for maximum influence — the better your skills as a power searcher are — the better the quality of content you’ll have to build your business blogs posts, business podcasts, videos, etc.
Search Engine Optimization expert Stephan Spencer put together a terrific free ebook that will help you become a Google power user. It’s a completely updated version and contains some of the best tips and techniques for digging deep with Google that I’ve ever seen.
Download your free copy of the Google Power User Handbook here.
One note on the Google services reviewed, Stephan created this ebook prior to Google Trends service coming out. Google Trends is one more terrific service to use in analyzing the entire marketplace, New Media included. We’ve used that tool for lots of great analysis and in gaining significant competitive advantages in innovative marketing strategies.
Enjoy!
