Cool video. Where was this shot?
So here’s a question to ponder (at least I think about it a lot)… now that we’re all about new media and busily thumbing our noses at the old TV-print-radio matrix … what about our personal packaging? Do we still need to be slick and shiny to be credible experts? Or do we just need to be totally real … or real in the not-very-real world of TV ‘reality’ programming?

I believe the video was shot at a recent conference in LA.
As far as “thumbing our noses” at the old media, I don’t believe you can do that totally (yet.) There are certain branding/positioning situations where the old media is obviously handy. Like Deborah being on the Dream Makeover Hawaii show last year as the performance coach.
That TV show brought us a lot of local exposure. Our magazine articles and weekly newspaper columns do the same (plus it’s always fun talking with the editors when an article is about the New Media vs. the mainstream. It’s amazing how little they really understand about business blogging or any New Media Marketing tools for that matter.:))
As far as “personal packaging,” I don’t think “slick” works with most audiences. And as far as “shiny,” that depends on you definition.
If you can package/brand yourself in a way that is unique, well-put-together, and at the same time true to yourself — that’s still important.
No matter what changes take place in the marketplace, it’s human nature to be drawn to people who are together, confident, and certain of their ability to solve problems. If you’re not true to yourself and work on building a brand off your strengths and unique natural style — then people will rarely buy in to you no matter how slick and shiny a person may be.
