The movie “The Secret” broke onto the world stage as an online video. Now, it would be a stretch to say that the promoters of The Secret used a New Media campaign to transform an online movie into a mass movement (actually, it would be a lie.) But where the real linkage to marketing with New Media is clear is dealing with something more subversive (and much more effective) than the communication channel being used.
The first thing to note about marketing The Secret is that the Three P’s of New Media Marketing (People, Participation, and Persuasion) were used very effectively to draw in minds open to the message of the movie. The Three P’s as laid out in Secrets of Online Persuasion created online and offline buzz that could not have been equaled even with the full power of the New Media Marketplace being employed intentionally.
Secondly, on the more practical side — New Media channels were used quite effectively to spread the gospel of “The Secret.”
But neither of those points is close to being a New Media Mindfreak. The reason is a little deeper this week.
I chose The Secret as the subject of this week’s New Media Mindfreak because of what you can learn about mass manipulation and pervasive persuasion. Two tools you can use as you market online with New Media, and off-line, face-to-face and belly-to-belly.
Our good friend and mentor Dave Lakhani along with Kevin Hogan, Blair Warren, and Pastor Dr. Bob Beverly break down the persuasion strategies used to package and propagandize The Secret. They reveal the truth behind The Secret, and in doing so, they reveal secrets you can use yourself.
You’ll learn how you can protect yourself against such propaganda.
And you’ll learn persuasion and psychological strategies that you can apply directly in your New Media Marketing.
Whether you’re a “true believer” in The Secret or not, what you’ll learn from these persuasion experts will open your eyes to what’s going on right in front of us each and every day.
Download the truth behind The Secret audio for free here. (You can left click to play in a seperate window. But since this is a two hour round table packed with practical insights and strategies, I suggest you right click and ’save as’ to save to your computer.)

Over the weekend Deb got a special invitation to check out this great new tool for marketing with New Media. I heard about this at our friend Mike Filsame’s Seven Figure Seminar earlier this year, and I’ve been chomping at the bit for the beta launch ever since.
Well, now it’s out in beta and you’re one of the first people to know about it.
YouTube and MySpace are phenomenal free traffic drivers. And they’re powerful tools for using the principles of Tribal Marketing. But, due to the nature of the content, and what the Tribes going there are looking for — getting massive amounts of traffic takes more advanced skills of persuasion and portioning.
Frankly, when it comes to making money, the major social networks are not a place for the New Media newbie. Without coaching on how to combine marketing with New Media channels, most business people get dismal results.
This new site however is much more straight forward and is an excellent experiential bridge to getting awesome marketing results on broader based New Media channels.
FreeIQ combines ecommerce with the general concepts of YouTube. Just imagine the site that would result from a partnership between Amazon, YouTube, and Google Search!
OK, so why the heck does this matter to you?
Here’s why, and why you will run over to this site and get started.
It’s not just about making money with your content. This New Media-marketing-education mashup has an affiliate program that allows you to embed video on any site you want, just like YouTube. Big difference is, when a person watches a video then goes to the site and makes a purchase, you get paid!
That’s right… you not only make money off your own content, you get paid for promoting other peoples videos. And we’re not talking about pennies like Revver.com offers. Plus, there’s even an affiliate program that allows you to signup new members and get paid on their efforts for one full year.
Yet there’s an even more important reason for you to take action today. This is a completely unique Web 2.0 mashup. The videos have the latest technology to that will (more…)
Today I’m honored to be a guest author for the ‘Leader’s Perspective’ at Strumpette. Amanda Chapel graciously invited me to write on a topic I’m very passionate about; protecting business people entering the New Media Marketplace. Cults, Conversations, and Control: The Wicked Witches of New Media is the result.
As a life long business owner and business coach I’m compelled to battle against the New Media evangelists who cast spells on business owners. Spells made up of self serving “rules,” “guidelines,” and “manifestos” that cause small businesses to waste time, money, and reputations when trying to market with New Media.
I chose to use this opportunity to expose the top three topics this band of cultish hypocrites use to mislead. Three wicked witches, if you will.
As a member of our Tribe of New Media marketers here at Advanced Business Blogging, you know I never expose deception without a resolution. This guest piece is a warning that is packed with constructive alternatives for marketers, sales professionals, and business people of all stripes. Check it out. Amanda has written an awesome intro for me in Another Sign the Social Media Tide Has Turned.

OK, I admit this video is not New Media marketing in and of itself. But the band Mute Math has rocketed to a level of fame and adoration that usually takes years to build. They’ve done that, and maximized profitability, using New Media like YouTube, blogs, and MySpace to gather a Tirbe of raving fans around themselves.
Besides, this video is just freakin cool! And for New Media Mindfreak Friday, what could be better?! Watch and try to figure out how they shot this video. (The method is NOT what it appears.)
Check out how the band is using New Media to market, promote, and brand themselves at MySpace/mutemath. Do a mindfreak on yourself and try to ID the five key New Media marketing strategies you can use in your business.
BTW — if you do a search in Google for “Mute Math” you’ll find that four oout of the top five spots out of 1.1 million pages are all New Media sources. Hmmmmmm, something to think about.
Since returning from our New Media Marketing speaking tour in Singapore I’ve been buried in three new projects, including managing the final setup of servers for the BLOG interactve 360 software. But Deb has been busy on a few projects of her own, infinitely more fun ones.
More on the projects in the next week, but for now here’s a hilarious video Deb created and posted over at our personal blog BackyardHawaii.com. If you ever thought Hawaii had it too easy on the weather front, you’ll love this Triumph the insult dog video.
BTW — for those of you who just can’t stop thinking about business and making money, this video has been pulling just over 100 views a day with no keyword optimization. Think about it.
OK, let me warn you right off the bat here. If you’re expecting to read some New Media Marketing puff piece parroting what every blog and New Media evangelist out there is saying about Michael Eisner’s new deal with MySpace, to paraphrase Tony Soprano — fogettaboutit! But you will learn how to make the big bucks!
Eisner partnering with MySpace to promote his “Prom Queen” mystery series does not mean he has drunk the New Media koolaide. He’s just a smart businessman. It’s that simple.
If you had over 160 million viewers, of which half are your ideal audience, wouldn’t you make sure you and your brand were seen there? Of course! It’s common sense.
Yet I’ve seen so much crap slung out there by entrepreneurially illiterate morons that I feel like (more…)
